PNP is proud to spotlight Ozii Obiyo and his contribution to the realization of the OTG Playa. CNN recently featured African entrepreneurs and their innovations, of which  OTGPlaya  recieved honorable mention and recognition for being one of the emerging technologies established with the aim of improving consumer access to licensed content.

We (PNP) first met Ozii at one of our networking events during his studies at Temple University. When PNP found out that Ozii was part of the OTGPlaya team, we decided to reach out and learn more about what he was up to and how the OTGPlaya is changing and improving the IT landscape for African content consumers, distributors and content providers.

Ozii is a Nigerian-American entrepreneur whose innovative thinking and creativity has won him awards and recognition. Originally from Imo State, Nigeria, Ozii grew up in the midst of four other siblings and describes himself as the “Mr. Fix It” of the Obiyo clan, stating that he was always trying to fix things around the house. His natural disposition towards technology informed his course of study at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Radio, TV, Film & Business. He also obtained an MBA in International Business from Temple University and Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (Paris, France).

During his undergraduate studies, Ozii quickly established himself as an innovator and cultural ambassador at University of Texas by establishing the first African Radio and TV show called “Ozii Obiyo presents African Extravaganza” and AfroFantastic TV. He also collaborated with his brother Chuki Obiyo to fund a scholarship program for college Students in Africa. With an excellent track record as a Marketing and Sales professional with years of experience in the telecommunications, social media, and enterprise software industry, Ozii’s recent involvement as a marketing consultant of the OTG Playa is not unexpected.

Ozii credits the CEO and Founder of OTGPlaya Entity LLC, Modupe Ajibola, for coming up with the idea for the service. The OTGPlaya was created in response to the lack of adequate IT infrastructure in developing countries and the impact it had on access to information and content. The OTGPlaya makes it possible for organizations and institutions to access licensed content that would otherwise be inaccessible due to the lack of a steady internet connection through the use of an electronic device, an app and OTGPlaya hotspot. The OTGPlaya product is beneficial to consumers of educational and entertainment content, while also providing avenues for monetization to distributors and content providers.

Ozii’s role as a marketing and sales consultant for the OTGPlaya allows him to help in positioning the product as the number one offline internet bridge to Africa. He sees the OTGPlaya technology as a two way communication endeavor through enabling and pushing indigenously created content to the rest of the world, while also bringing content from the rest of the world to indigenous people at zero cost. Ozii understands the unique challenges that Africans have with pushing content upstream and downstream, and sees the OTGPlaya as a way to ease this challenge while also monetizing the process for Africans.

On his professional goals and vision as an entrepreneur, Ozii has always enjoyed the idea of leveraging technology to solve common problems and wants to lead by example. “I want my life, the work I do, and legacy to be an inspiration to all”. On a non-professional level, Ozii describes himself as a decent cook and is quick to note that he makes “delicious pepper soup.” FYI Ozii, PNP is looking to score an invite for a special pepper soup session.
